Hello everyone! I'm not sure if you are all aware or not, but we have had a MASSIVE heat wave here in Chicago & pretty much most of the upper Midwestern states. Average temps have been around 100+ degrees Fahrenheit. This extraordinary weather pattern has unfortunately caused some casualties over the past few weeks.
It simply cannot be overstated that proper protection from the heat is absolutely vital for enduring this extreme climate. This type of weather is usually reserved for our neighbors in the southwest, but this year, I guess it was our turn.
The good news is that our temperatures are starting to level off & by early next week we should see a significant dive in degrees (about 20 per The National Weather Service).
So you may ask why am I talking about weather on an alternative medicine blog ? Good question. It is to merely emphasize the importance of a healthy lifestyle. Hydrating is very important regardless of the outside temperature, however, one must account for additional fluid loss in high temperatures (25% increase of water intake is suggested according to some experts). Your vital organs and digestive system depend on water for optimal functionality. It's good for your skin & it keeps your joints well lubricated. Remember, water is always the best option for proper hydration.
Also, I want to thank you all for making the "Superfoods Series" one of my most popular articles ever. A new article is currently in the works so please be patient with me. Your support makes it all worthwhile. I don't want to drag this post on for too long so I will cut it short tonight, but I do plan on posting a new recipe for you guys to enjoy in the near future, so be on the look out.
As always, your comments are very welcome!
