Go Meatless!

Vegetables or veggies (as they are most commonly referred to) are a vital part of any diet program you choose to pursue. It was Hippocrates that said it best: "Let food be thy medicine, thy medicine shall be thy food." As with any diet you should ALWAYS consult with your doctor for guidance . Basically a vegetarian diet, the raw food diet promotes eating and drinking ‘living’ foods. Living foods and juices contain the maximum amount of fiber found in raw produce, fiber that can be lost in processing. Such foods are easily metabolized and tend to be lower in calories than the average diet. Heating food above 116°F destroys enzymes that aid in food digestion and absorption as well as diminishing its nutritional value. "Real" Food?

Hello everyone, I hope you are all doing well. I wanted to share with you an experience I had with a good friend of mine while I was out one warm summer evening in downtown Chicago last month (and believe me, we have had a lot of them here in Chicago). We were looking for a place to "cool our heels" so to speak and have more time to chat.  My friend knows that I am a bit of a health fanatic, so he was quite apprehensive about suggesting some of his normal chow-down spots for us to get refreshments. You know, the places where "fat is king & lean is mean"? There's a lot of great spots in downtown Chicago to eat (one day I'll have to give you a list of some of my favorites), but finding one that fits with a healthy lifestyle can be a bit challenging at times...unless you know where to look.

The Stone Age Diet Solution

The dietary habits adopted by developed countries over the last centuries are largely responsible for many of the chronic diseases that are now commonplace in Western society. Diseases such as coronary heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, and cancer of the colon are virtually unheard of among the few hunter-gatherer populations still remaining in the world. The stone age diet is based on the foods that our hunter-gatherer ancestors would have eaten before they became farmers. Even over the last fifty years, our food has drastically changed. Where once our food was made up of simple, natural foods with minimal added ingredients, our food now contains a multitude of different ingredients. Often it can be hard to even find modern-day food that does not contain some form of milk or wheat, which are common triggers in food allergies, and this leads to people eating the same ingredients every day and often at every single meal. The stone age diet is nutritionally balanc

"10" Is NOT Always Perfect...

Whenever the word "overweight" is used in a conversation (or an article like this one) our minds tend to conjure up images of extremely rotund individuals that may tip scales in excess of 300 pounds or more.  Or worse, a cartoonish depiction of that same individual. Both images are stereotypical and clearly do not fit the medical definition of obesity .
